If you plan your leisure activities in the coming week according to the weather, you can get your bike out of the basement. The forecast from Geosphere Austria promises spring fever instead of winter joy. Expressed in numbers: With minimum temperatures of four degrees plus, the precipitation that falls in Upper Austria at the weekend will only trickle from 1700 meters above sea level. “Unfortunately, it gets wet underneath,” says Geosphere meteorologist Josef Haslhofer.
However, the weather at the beginning of the holiday season is not dominated by the rain, but by the wind. Peaks of up to 70 km/h can cause the trees to sway. Haslhofer expects “rather uncomfortable” conditions not only in the mountains, but also in the flatlands, at least on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The focus of the rain is shifting from the Mühlviertel, where it is expected to drizzle again and again tomorrow, to the southern highlands. This is where most of the precipitation will be expected on Sunday.
“It’s much warmer”
The weekend invites more card games than outdoor excursions. After that, students and vacationers can look forward to nice weather. Although most of the sky will be cloudy on Monday, most parts of the country are expected to remain dry. The wind also dies down. “On Tuesday the clouds will loosen up and the sun will appear more often by Thursday,” says meteorologist Josef Haslhofer. It looks like a “reasonable” holiday week that can be used for winter sports in the mountains as well as for hiking or cycling. Because the temperatures rise in the afternoon to seven to 14 degrees. “It’s noticeably warmer than the average of the season,” says Haslhofer.
