Corresponding media reports were confirmed by the wolf commissioner Aldin Selimovic on Thursday at the request of the APA. According to him, DNA samples were taken and the evaluation should take around two weeks.

Killed seven sheep

According to online reports from “NÖN” (“Lower Austria News”) and ORF Lower Austria, seven sheep were killed and nine injured on Thursday night. In August and September of the previous year, a total of eight sheep kills in the Langschlag region were traced back to wolves, and the hunters in nearby Liebenau called for increased attention.

In the past week, wolf sightings in Upper Austria had made headlines several times: As reported, a wolf was filmed for the first time near the city limits of Linz in the Leonding Magic Valley at the weekend, and a few days later it appeared near Lambach.

Gottfried Diwold, Wolf Commissioner for the State of Upper Austria, was not surprised at the sighting of wolves in an interview with OÖN. After two years at the latest, young wolves have to leave the pack and roam around until they have found a partner and can start their own pack. However, the young male most likely has nothing to do with the cracks in the Waldviertel.
