If you have 18 million US dollars or the equivalent of around 16.5 million euros on the high edge, you could try your luck in the California desert. Because on the edge of Joshua Tree National Park, about ten minutes from the village of the same name, is the so-called “invisible house” for sale – for 18 million dollars.
The residential building is 570 square meters, completely mirrored and almost disappears into the environment because of its reflective facades. The film producer Chris Hanley had the mirror house built in 2019, the architect was Tomas Osinski. Hanley is like for movies “American Psycho”, “Buffalo ’66” or “London Fields” known.
Popular with celebrities
The construction is said to be from the science fiction classic “2001: A Space Odyssey” be inspired. The house is popular with a number of celebrities from the area and worldwide, parts of series for streaming portals such as Netflix, music videos and television shows have already been filmed there.
The house is currently advertised for rent on the Internet platform for accommodation Airbnb. Accordingly, up to eight people can sleep in four bedrooms for around 3700 euros per night. There are five baths, a huge swimming pool, and according to the platform, one “fully equipped gourmet kitchen” – including Miele ovens. The thermal mass of concrete and the water of the 30 meter long indoor pool stabilize the room temperature on hot days. The floor-to-ceiling windows create a smooth transition from living space to nature.
Located on 67 acres of tranquil desert, the home offers seclusion and oneness with nature. The Joshua Tree area is known for its spectacular rock formations and an artist community that has settled here. Hundreds of studios of painters and sculptors line the desert.
Rock superstars like Keith Richards, Jim Morrison and Bono have also been inspired by the barren landscape. Madonna, Kanye West and Justin Bieber have vacationed in the area, while local recording studios have attracted the likes of Iggy Pop and Beyonce.
