The fodder deficit due to the drought will last until spring

In order to reverse the situation and compensate the losses caused by the drought in the growth of the natural field, the highest historical levels of growth in the coming months, something that has not happened for 22 years.

Growth below the historical average

According to the IPA analysis, the growth rates of the last five months —from September 2022 to January 2023— remain with values ​​of around 11.6% below the historical averagewhich represents a loss of growth rate per hectare of 300 kilograms of dry matter.

In December and January, the figures were even lower, being 12% and 42% below the average, respectively. In the case of January, the growth rate was barely 7% higher than the minimum value registered, corresponding to January 2009.

For the areas of Eastern Sierras and Northeast Sedimentary Basin the difference in percentage considering the last five months increases to more than 13%, which corresponds in kilos of dry matter to 390 kilos of loss per hectare, always in reference to the historical average.
