A 57-year-old is accused of grabbing the hand of an eight-year-old elementary school student on the grounds of an elementary school in Vienna-Mariahilf around 11 a.m. on Friday and wanting to take her with him. However, two teachers intervened immediately and prevented the attempted child abduction. The suspect was arrested in the course of a manhunt near the Gumpendorfer Straße U6 station. He is in custody.
Teachers sounded the alarm
The educators instructed the man to leave the premises immediately, whereupon he spat on the two. When he had complied with the request, he is said to have stood in front of the fence there and asked another eight-year-old schoolgirl to come to him. The teachers then immediately brought the children into the school building and alerted the police, according to a broadcast on Saturday.
“No Bad Intentions”
In the police interrogation, the accused confessed that he had grabbed a child’s arm, he did not deny – however, he “had no bad intentions”, but only wanted to know where he found scrap iron, reported LPD spokesman Markus Dittrich from the interrogation. He would earn his living with scrap metal. The accused was taken to a prison by order of the Vienna public prosecutor’s office. Furthermore, there is a residence ban against the homeless.
