Despite knowing the area well, the mountaineer and a Hungarian acquaintance got into impassable terrain, slipped with serious consequences and fell more than 50 meters. After an extensive search, the seriously injured was finally recovered by the alpine police and mountain rescue and brought to the Vöcklabruck clinic.

Immediately after the accident, the companion of the 48-year-old made an emergency call. Due to his lack of knowledge of German and English, it was initially not possible to clarify where and how the accident had happened. The mountaineer, who was initially unconscious, was only located after several phone calls, a mobile phone tracking and a search with the emergency doctor helicopter.

Rain and strong wind prevented rescue from the air, which is why the emergency services had to get to the scene of the accident overland. After the first aid, the Hungarian was roped down on a mountain stretcher to the next forest road and received by the emergency medical team. The course of the accident was subsequently reconstructed by questioning the attendant again with an interpreter.
