There was boisterous celebration, dancing and laughing: there was great joy at the new edition of the Piratenball after the compulsory Corona break on Carnival Saturday. In 2020, the last time in the Posthof was “Carnival ahoy”, then the pandemic stopped the hustle and bustle, which marks the highlight of the carnival season in the state capital.
“The mood was just great”
This season, however, nothing stood in the way of the 64th edition, the many hard-working hands of the volunteers made the ball format, which is traditionally organized by the Ister rowing club, possible again. “The mood was just great,” Berndt Papinski, the press officer, sums up with satisfaction. “The guests were incredibly grateful that we got the ball back,” says Ister President Alexander Weigl, who is proud and grateful for the great commitment of his team.

With the celebration on Saturday, the handover of the baton in terms of organization also became official: after Gerald Stumptner, who successfully pulled the organizational strings for ten years until 2020, it is now Weigl and his organizing committee who have the turn.
The well-loved traditions of the ball have not been shaken. Of course, the costume awards could not be missing this year either. In the weirdest individual costume category, Thomas Denkmeier was able to impress with his creation made of scrap metal and a breathing mask, he was able to look forward to an Ister annual membership and a ball ticket for the 65th Pirate Ball. The most creative group were the heating mushrooms (they won an elfin hangover breakfast), while the 13-member coral reef ensemble won as the largest group. Your prize: a race in the Rotax Max Dome.

The carnival fun also continues to serve a good purpose. The proceeds will support the club’s young rowers – a welcome support in view of the corona-related ball failures and current prices.
There was no shortage of good reasons to celebrate: Robert Grieshofer (C. Bergmann), Alex Luger (Wohlschlager & Redl), Gerald Rubner (DigiCut) and Ulrike Soukop (Costa Cruises) were among the guests. Vice rowing Olympic champion and trainer Phil Stekl, young talent Nina Müllner as well as Jutta and Reinhard Huemer (hairdresser Juhu) and Markus Brugger (Elfin) also had fun. The latter also donated the ball farewell gift, which has now achieved cult status: a hairdresser’s voucher and a glass of devil’s roller.
