In the next few months, the material wood will become a topic in the technical handicraft lessons at the Lembach secondary school “Homeschooling Place – My favorite place to study” plan and produce a workpiece together. The 3b class takes part in the carpenter’s trophy, a carpenter’s guild project in cooperation with the education department of Upper Austria. This is intended to give young people an understanding of wood as a material and the carpentry trade while they are still at school. “Slats of different thicknesses were made available to us. But we mustn’t glue them to a plate. We are already looking forward to the exhibition”, says Sarah, a 3b student. Above all, teamwork, creativity and perseverance are promoted. A jury will evaluate these works, and the three best young carpenters will receive a prize in the three categories of design, functionality and stability. At the kick-off event in Wifi Linz, teachers and carpenters received all the information about this cooperation project. The required wood was sponsored and handed over by the Hindinger joinery. The necessary tools have already been made available by the carpentry shop Scheschy from Neufelden. Timo Wienert, apprentice trainer at Scheschy, is available to advise the students on this project.
