The Attorney General’s Office, the body in charge of sanctioning public officials, took up the case in which González was accused of “alleged abusive sexual behavior” against Muñoz, an incident that occurred in November 2017 in his office after a ceremony at a military headquarters .
According to the complainant, the prosecution shelved the process in 2019 before Congress approved González’s promotion to general.
“The case was never moved, the case was always quiet and for this year 2021, in the month of August, I found out that the case had been archived,” said Muñoz, adding that a prosecutor tried not to go ahead with his complaint due to the “much power” that his alleged aggressor and his circle had.
For its part, the prosecution confirmed that it closed the investigation of the complaint without specifying the reasons, but decided to reopen it last year, according to the AFP news agency.
González denied the accusations and attributed them to “a setup” by the woman for denying her a transfer.
The defendant has been the Army’s intelligence chief since January 2020, a position to which he was assigned after a scandal over alleged illegal wiretapping by that unit of politicians, judges and journalists.
