The girl had already been admitted in a life-threatening condition, the police informed. Grandparents, parents and the two siblings of the eight-year-old were unharmed or suffered only minor injuries.
The fire broke out around 1:40 p.m. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The parents and three children stayed there, the grandparents live on the ground floor. When the fire brigade arrived, thick smoke was already coming out of the first floor windows. While the parents and the two siblings were rescued more or less unharmed, the eight-year-old suffered burns and smoke inhalation. After first aid, she was flown by helicopter to Feldkirch Regional Hospital, where she died a few hours later.
In addition to 80 firefighters, the police with 18 people and the Red Cross with 15 first responders were on duty. The crisis intervention team took care of the shocked family.
