For Bergara, the measure will only “repay” the tax increase of recent years
Although he pointed out that the design of the measure, the impact and the magnitude still remain to be seen, the opposition senator, who is one of the pre-candidates that is most emerging for the FA interns, recalled that it will be necessary to see “if the money is returned tax increase” that occurred in recent years.
“If a tax reduction is decided, doing it after years of tax increases has clearly an electoral and demagogic overtone”, pointed out Bergara, who also pointed out that with the increases of the past years the government “is collecting an additional 100 million dollars per year”.
Thus, he emphasized: “We are going to see if this reduction compensates for that or not, if the higher taxes that they have been paying during this time are being returned to the people.”
In the last days, the Advisory Fiscal Council (CFA) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), made up of tax experts, warned about the fiscal risks that the measure promoted by the president could imply Luis Lacalle Pou and the minister lily arbeleche.
The former minister recalled the recent statement from the autarkic body and, in addition, added: “We do not see a tax reduction with bad eyes, far from it. But we would be calmer if the context were one in which the State is investing the necessary resources for everything that is needed, in education, health, housing, security, justice, poverty”.
