Markus P. Ladendorfer, Head of the Educational Castles of the State of Upper Austria, is more than satisfied. Despite the Corona aftermath at the beginning of 2022, a total of more than 42,000 seminar participants were welcomed in the two houses – Schloss Zell an der Pram (Schärding district) and Schloss Weinberg in Kefermarkt (district Freistadt). With 20,000 guests and 5922 overnight stays, Weinberg even had the “most successful year ever”, says Markus P. Ladendorfer about the past seminar and event year. In Zell an der Pram there were more than 22,000 participants and 8488 overnight stays. These figures are all the more remarkable given that it was only possible to start operations in mid-February. Until then, events and group seminars were not yet possible due to the Corona measures.
Customer base expanded
The fact that this new start went so well is mainly due to the fact that the pandemic was used in Weinberg to reposition itself digitally and technically, so that the various lockdowns could be responded to well. The customer structure has also changed: In the past, departments of the state government used to be the guests for seminars, but now business is increasingly discovering Weinberg Castle as a conference venue.
With its focus on adult education and music, Schloss Zell has built up a solid customer base through high quality standards, says Ladendorfer. “In addition to our 57 hotel rooms directly in the castle and the historic state rooms, the in-house castle kitchen in particular enjoys an excellent reputation.”
3D tour of the castle
As a further development of the merger of Schloss Weinberg and Schloss Zell an der Pram to form the Bildungsschlössern Oberösterreich, a new website went online in February this year. In addition to transparent information and easy contact, users can also explore the state rooms of both castles in a virtual 3D tour. You can see this adventure tour at bildungsschloesser.at
But in the meantime, the focus has long been on the future again: in Zell Castle on the benefit concert on March 12th with the VIB Symphonic Orchestra and soloist Jakob Gattermann (start: 3.30 p.m.; coffee and cake from 2 p.m.) and in Weinberg Castle on the March 25th and 26th. Then the Renaissance castle invites you to the annual spring awakening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. At the Easter market, more than 80 artisans exhibit their products in a spring-like atmosphere and show their skills in living workshops. The Kasperl from the Linz-Urfahr puppet theater makes a guest appearance in the Knights’ Hall, and the Easter Bunny gives presents to the youngest visitors. Passion cribs from the Mühlviertler crib friends are exhibited in the castle chapel. (live, wm)
