The union had informed on Tuesday night that the measure of force, which will be at the national level, would also affect the guards, which had led the company ancap to announce that it had to shut down the refinery for security reasons, with the consequent complications in the fuel production.
After a dialogue, Fancap decided for the La Teja plant – which will be closed between September and December for renovations causing losses of US$72 million – to ensure the guards to guarantee security control tasks.
“We will take into consideration fundamental issues such as the importance of safe operations in a high-risk industry such as oil refining,” the union said in a statement.
This prevented halting operations at the largest refinery in the country. Nevertheless, fuel dispatch will be affected at the national level, highlighted the specialized site Surtidores.
The point of conflict between the state company Ancap and the union is the 15% discount applied to the salaries of 85 workers sanctioned for protest measures, developed in December, among which is the refusal to sign refinery maintenance tasks. .
In the first days of January, Fancap had affected the fuel supply at Uruguayan airports with another forceful measure that lasted four days. In this case, the strike was due to the non-privatization of the fuel plants in the airports of Willow Lagoon and carrascowhich require that they remain under the state orbit.
