Both women started their careers at a young age with the youth fire brigade. “Our youth worker at the time, Helmut Hinterauer, actively approached me and some of my friends. We were very happy about that. Our first competition group consisted of eight girls and one boy. Even if our youth worker often had to listen to derogatory comments about his group of girls , we had a lot of fun and a great time in the youth fire brigade,” says Bruckmoser.
The two are convinced that the fire brigade is ready for more women’s power. “In the fire brigade it makes no difference whether you are male or female, carpenter or academic. The common goal of rescuing people and animals from (life)-threatening situations at any time of the day or night is our priority,” says Aigner.
More than ten percent of all fire service members are now female, and the trend is rising.
