The heat wave of the last days continues to accentuate the crisis of water deficit that devastates the national countryside.
The current heat wave is hitting agricultural producers in the east of the department of paysanduwhere in recent days the death of at least 20 cows due to the climatic emergency of water deficit, and the present forage shortage at the national level.
Sanducero producers are demanding urgent assistance from the national government, as well as the arrival of trucks with water and bales. Ricceto himself acknowledged that before the death of the cattle, he made the decision to sell the breeding cows because of the fodder deficit, after having “endured” them until, despite his efforts, they “went thin”, and he was later forced to sell them for less than the market price.
Ricceto, pointed against the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) and said he believed that “the measures, with all the good intentions for family producers, they are not measurements for today”, implying the inadequacy and delay of the decisions made from the portfolio.
MGAP forecasts a loss of 1.8 billion dollars due to the drought
MGAP raised the previous estimate of loss from the drought, which had at one point been set at $1.175 billion, up to 1,800 million dollarsaccording to what the undersecretary of the portfolio told the press, Ignacio Buffa.
