The Vienna State Police Directorate (LPD Vienna) confirmed at 11:30 a.m. that preventive measures would continue and referred to a new risk assessment by the Directorate for State Security and Intelligence (DSN).
According to the DSN, “primarily Syrian institutions” are affected – due to the anniversary of the civil war in Syria. This started on March 15, 2011. The risk is still rated as “highly abstract”. “We are in contact with local representatives and are informing them. As soon as the respective assessments indicate that the situation is easing, the police precautionary measures can be reduced,” informed the state police department on Thursday at the APA request and on Twitter.
The executive gave no further information or warnings to the Archdiocese of Vienna, Michael Prüller, spokesman for the Archdiocese, reported to Kathpress on Thursday. All churches are open, all services would take place, said Prüller, who spoke of “normal church life”.
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) did not provide any information on the threat situation in Vienna when asked at a media event on Thursday morning. He referred to the communication through the state police department.
The threat should be aimed at refugees
The Vienna police issued the warning on Wednesday. The directorate for state protection and intelligence has received indications that an Islamist-motivated attack is planned. Increased surveillance of neuralgic places in Vienna and several operations followed. According to “Krone” (Thursday edition), the threat is aimed at Syrians who have fled to Austria.
