Since Wednesday morning, Vienna has had a warning about possible imminent terrorist attacks on religious institutions, and the police have increased their security measures. The attack warning was lifted Thursday evening. “An updated risk assessment by the DSN now allows these measures to be reduced,” said police spokesman Daniel Fürst of the APA, referring to the State Security and Intelligence Directorate.

The Directorate for State Security and Intelligence (DSN) had received indications that an attack was planned in Vienna on March 15, 2023, it said on Wednesday. As a result, increased monitoring and surveillance of potentially endangered places and objects was implemented.

“These precautionary measures were continuously evaluated and adjusted depending on the situation,” it said. The all-clear can therefore be given. The “preventive security measures” had affected houses of worship and institutions of various denominations.
