ÖBB carried out maintenance work on its IT systems during the night. When starting up an interface after another update, difficulties arose, ÖBB announced on Friday morning. Around 150 trains were completely or partially canceled, of which 30 long-distance connections were affected, according to Deutsche Bahn. In the morning it was said that the situation had “normalized”.

But there was still no question of a normal situation at Linz Central Station on Friday afternoon. Almost every platform was full of irritated train customers who didn’t know if and when their trains were arriving or departing because the displays weren’t updated.

“There are currently delays and train cancellations throughout Austria. The reason for this are technical problems after maintenance of internal IT systems. Our technicians are working flat out to fix the fault, although the end is not yet foreseeable,” the Bundesbahnen said on Facebook.

Train traffic on the Mühlkreisbahn was still interrupted in the early afternoon, and the ÖBB press office was unavailable.
