The Productive Cabinet will meet this Monday to report on the measures taken due to the drought, their execution and the impacts they generated.

Alvaro Delgadosecretary of the Presidency, confirmed that the losses will be between 1,800 and 2,000 million dollars due to the drought and that they are evaluating the import of fruits and vegetables, although he stressed the need for it not to impact consumers; In addition, this Monday will meet the Productive Cabinetor to determine how the measures taken by the government continue.

The Secretary of the Presidency affirmed that there are two consequences of the drought: an immediate one, which is due to the burning of pastures and the lower yield of the crops and another in the long term where there will be a reduction of animals within two years due to the decreased pregnancy in cattle.

Delgado assured, for his part, that the government will surely have to import fruits and vegetables due to the scarcity and poor quality caused by the drought. However, he remarked that the government will ensure that this has the least possible impact on final consumers and producers.

On the other hand, Delgado spoke about how the water deficit impacts the labor market, something that they are studying together with the Ministry of Labor. “The labor issue has not had, so far, any kind of alerts. Presumably they can be generated, perhaps later, ”he remarked.

In addition, the secretary recalled some of the measures taken by the government to help producers, which were more than 35, among which are the credits for irrigation for 20 years with 90% financing and a express credit for $50,000 easily accessible. However, Delgado announced that this week the Productive Cabinet will meet to catch up with the measures, see their impact and the way in which they were executed.

In addition to this, a decree will be signed this Monday that reduces the consular fee for the importation of rations to feed cattle, in relation to the subsidized ration for producers by the government that was communicated at the beginning of March.
