Juan Ignacio Buffaundersecretary of Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) said that the rains of the last week were welcome, however, they are not enough to solve the extreme drought that suffered Uruguay this summer.

According to the official, it is necessary to wait a while for more and more rains to be able to think about overcoming the water deficit that the Uruguayan territory is experiencing. “The situation of extreme dryness is beginning to be resolved, but some effects of the water deficit are delayed,” Buffa remarked on the Arriba Gente program on channel 10.

The official referred to fodder for animals as one of the effects that will be seen in the long term due to the drought. In addition, he expressed that now the problem with autumn is the appearance of frosts, “That the first frost is delayed as long as possible is essential for there to be forage”, specified Buffa.

However, the MGAP undersecretary stressed that there was no shortage in the markets despite the drought. “The important thing is that the plaza is not out of supplies and that has not happened,” he said. The possibility of importing fruits and vegetables
