The city council will introduce next week a fine of between 100 and 300 euros for the parents or legal guardians of children who disrupt “civil coexistence” inside or outside of school.
“The idea comes from the experience we have had in the city administration over the last year and a half, a time when we have had to intervene in several cases of bullying together with the police and the schools,” said the Mayor of Cento, Edoardo Accorsi according to media information.
“This penalty is an additional tool that we are testing. We want to assess whether it works,” explained the mayor. Parents will be exempted from fines if they get their children to participate in anti-bullying awareness programs. The fine should be seen as an “incentive to raise awareness among families,” who in some cases tend to downplay the bullying phenomenon, the mayor stressed. In any case, the first approach of the city administration is education and sensitization to the phenomenon of bullying.
