Fortunately, these were not life-threatening missions: in one case, the comrades had to go to an elevator opening, in the other they were called because dangerous goods had escaped.
For the Mayor of Linz Klaus Luger (SPÖ), the fact that the professional fire brigade had a hard time getting through is confirmation that there is no basis for discussion with the activists. For him, the “chaos action clearly shows how ruthless this radical group behaved towards the citizens”, he reacted in a first statement. “Through these unlawful, chaotic blockades, the protest group prevented the passage of emergency vehicles, which in other cases can save lives. If traffic is paralyzed in this way, delays occur in which even alternative routes are no longer an option. This is an absolutely irresponsible action that cannot be justified by any argument,” says Luger, repeating his call for stricter legal regulations and the possibility of being able to demand compensation from activists.
No rescue alley formed
Jelena Saf from the “Last Generation”, which is responsible for the blockades, reported to the OÖ Nachrichten in the morning that precautions had been taken in this regard. There weren’t any problems. On the contrary, as she says: Part of the roadway is deliberately left free for rescue vehicles. An ambulance without blue lights drove through today. She sees another problem: drivers would not form an emergency lane, and emergency services would sometimes not be able to get through in traffic jams. “It would be the driver’s duty to form a rescue lane.” When the police arrived, it worked, the climate activist reported.
