Two underage Austrians temporarily arrested in Paris

They were arrested “during the protests” against the French pension reform.

As the Foreign Ministry of the APA confirmed on Wednesday, the Austrian embassy in Paris was able to obtain “quick release” after receiving the relevant information. Further details were not given with reference to data protection. The embassy had acted in fulfillment of its obligation to provide consular assistance.

A daily newspaper reported that those arrested were two 15-year-olds who were on a school trip in Paris. They were arrested “during the protests” against the French pension reform.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in this regard that “currently” no change in travel advice for France was planned. It states that riots can occur during the “frequent demonstrations” in Paris and other major cities and that the “instructions of the French security authorities must be followed”. The APA had also asked whether the State Department was currently advising school groups not to stay in Paris.
