Landestheater, Redoutensäle and the Promenadenhof restaurant: the building at Promenade 39, which opened in 1803, is a central event location in Linz. However, it is also getting on in years, which is why – as reported – a thorough renovation and modernization is necessary.
Renovation “special responsibility of the state”
Now the key data have become known. The renovation is scheduled to start in June 2025 and be completed in 2027. The costs for the necessary structural measures are estimated at EUR 54 million (price basis as of January 2023). “It is our special responsibility to preserve the state’s building stock, but above all to preserve this center for many of our compatriots,” says Governor Thomas Stelzer (VP).
The decision in principle should be made at the next meeting of the state government on Monday. The project will then also be a topic at the supervisory board meeting of OÖ Theater und Orchester GmbH (TOG) on Thursday, March 30th.
The dilapidated state of the building is no longer a secret, as shown by the leaking roof and the ingress of water into the masonry. The fire protection and the technical equipment are also no longer up to date. Electrical wiring, heating installations, ventilation and the water and waste water supply have to be renewed.
