The number of electric buses increased to 35%

Within the framework of the energy transition, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) presented tools with the aim of extending energy efficiency, especially in the field of mobility, as well as increasing the number of electric buses to 35%.

The event was calledWith efficiency we all win” where the Minister of Industry, Walter Verrythat of Environment, Robert Bouvier and that of Tourism, Tabare Viera. It was there that Verri announced the incorporation of ten electric buses, increasing the number of buses that have this technology by 35%, according to the specialized media Surtidores.

With this incorporation, the sum of 42 electrical units that take place within the framework of the “Subite Buses” program. This project will benefit eight departments among which are San José, Río Negro, Florida, Flores, Maldonado, Artigas, Salto and Tacuarembó.

The total investment for this project is $1.8 billion of which 72 million will be in charge of MIEM. These buses, according to the minister, will be used for both tourist and urban transport activities and will also be used to support social organizations with the aim of improving mobility within the Uruguay.

Meetings with Spain

Within this theme, the MIEM held a meeting with the Secretary of State and Commerce of Spain, Xiana Mendez Bertolo, where they discussed Spanish investment projects. In addition, they talked about an institutional collaboration in the field of green hydrogen and of the electric mobility.

Other representatives of the Ministry of Industry also participated in the meeting, as well as the Spanish Government, such as the Spanish ambassador in Uruguay, Santiago Jimenez Martin.

Energy efficiency labeling

In this sense, this Tuesday, the MIEM presented the energy efficiency programs that will be applied in various sectors of society, among which is the energy efficiency labeling which will be mandatory from September 17, 2024. This label will contain information about the performance in kilometers per liter on the highway, mixed cycle, and city, as well as data related to the carbon dioxide emissions generated per kilometer.
