Monetary history in El Salvador

From the year 1892 until 2001, when the Monetary Integration Law came into effect, the official currency was the colon. The country later adopted the US dollar as its official currency.

In 2021, President Nayib Bukele announced that Bitcoin would become legal tender in that country.

The signals that link Bitcoin with the Colón

The “an authentic 100 colones bill from the year 1980” has some numbers that, according to the collector, are linked to the BTC.

“The serial number (red in the image) ends with the number 21, a symbol that obviously needs no introduction in the Bitcoin universe,” said the collector.

The number 21 was preceded by an 8, which evokes the infinity sign. Anything divided by 21 million is usually an image used by bitcoiners to teach the principles of sound money like bitcoin.

Also the 34 is related to the year of foundation of the Central Bank of that country. And 1993 was when a fixed exchange system for the dollar was established, thus marking the beginning of the country’s dollarization.

Also the final 21 is also related to the year 2021, which was in which the Bitcoin Law was decreed in El Salvador.
