The last municipal council meeting in Braunau, in which Hubert Esterbauer was represented as FPÖ councillor, took place on Thursday evening. Shortly before the end he announced his resignation after 25 years in politics. “I’m 66 years old now, I was a police officer for 42 years and a politician for 25 years. There were a lot of positive things, but there were also a lot of challenges. I’m mentally and physically fit and I want to stay that way for as long as possible,” explains he this step.
He will officially remain a city councilor until May, by which time his heart’s project – the mobility concept for the city of Braunau – should be on the table in an acceptable rough version. Then he turns his back on politics “with a clear conscience”.
Esterbauer has been politically active for the Freedom Party since 1997. First as a municipal councilor in St. Peter, since 2015 in the town of Braunau. During his politically active time, Esterbauer ran for the state parliament, the National Council, held positions at district level, was the FP mayoral candidate and was deputy mayor of the largest district capital in the Innviertel for two years.
