More than 10,000 companies were created in the last quarter of 2022

The private sector began to show signs of a strong post-pandemic recovery late last year.

He Statistics National Institute (INE) released new data on the demographic composition of companies in Uruguaywhere it was reported that during the last quarter of 2022 some 10,048 companies, compared to some 7,403 that ceased their activities. This represents a variation of the 2.47% compared to the previous quarter, and 8.25% compared to the same quarter of the year 2021.

On the side, of the 7,403 companies that closed, the percentage variation was no less than 16.47% compared to the previous quarter, and -1.60% compared to the last quarter of 2021. In turn, 8,547 companies began cessationa negative variation of the -2.21% compared to the previous quarter, but 10.21% compared to the end of 2021. Those who restarted their work were 1,975a strong quarter-on-quarter increase in 39.48%and an interannual rate of 2.44%.

The last quarter of 2022 closed with 907,935 employed people, some 23,902 workers more than the 884,033 registered in the third quarter of that year. Likewise, the number of companies went from 177,875 to 181,351, increasing by 3,476. In the breakdown for that quarter, 13,066 jobs were created (a growth of 7.67%); another 11,890 were lost; 11,522 were terminated; and 3,480 restarted their activities.

The human services sector is occupied by women in 75.16%

In the composition of the sectors of activity according to sex, it was verified that the category “human services and human healthIt is occupied by women in 75.16%, while in “teaching” the percentage is 71.85%. On the other hand, the “exploitation of mines and quarriesthey carry her forward mostly men with a 86.81%, while in “electricity and gas supplies” they represent 84.02%. The male podium is completed by “transport and storage” with 80.24%.

The sectors that showed greater gender parity they were “professional, scientific and technical activities” with 52.46% for women and 47.54% for men, and “accommodation and food services” with a record of 51.19% in women and the remaining 48 .81% in men.
