When the fire brigade arrived at around 11:20 p.m., the apartment was already fully engulfed in flames and thick smoke was coming out through the windows. The flames had already begun to spread to parts of the facade.
The fire brigade immediately began to evacuate the house and launched a fire-fighting attack from inside and outside. Four people had to be rescued from the apartment building using a turntable ladder, and around 20 other tenants were brought to safety through the stairwell by respiratory protection teams.
Several apartments uninhabitable
According to initial information, three people were taken to the Wels Clinic. The 62-year-old tenant of the fire apartment could only be recovered dead. According to the current status of the investigation, the police do not assume third-party fault.
The fire brigade was finally able to prevent the flames from spreading further. Nevertheless, several apartments in the house are currently uninhabitable, the tenants concerned found accommodation in alternative quarters or with relatives.
