He Broad Front (FA) issued a public statement in defense of the mayor of Montevideo and one of the referents of the coalition, Carolina sew, Faced with the request for impeachment against him that is advancing in the Senate of Uruguay.
“The objective of dismiss the highest authority of the department of Montevideo with a pretext that is not true, it is one more instance in the attacks that the comrade Carolina Cosse has received from the parties that make up the conservative coalition of the national government”, indicates the statement approved by the executive Secretary of the FA, for whom the procedure promoted by the departmental ediles should have been archived instead of approved in the Constitution and Codes Commission.
Likewise, the document adds that it is a “legal nonsense” that “openly shows the institutional irresponsibility of the coalition”, which they accused of taking “another step that degrades the quality” of “democracy”.
Although the impeachment process was approved and the Broad Front considers the initiative as a strategy to destabilize one of the most important political figures of the oppositionthe government coalition does not have enough votes for the measure to prosper, since it needs 21 votes out of 30, and the ruling party has 17 senators.

Cosse’s response to the impeachment advance
Cosse, for his part, pointed out that the senators of the coalition did not make the “most mature decision” when accommodating the request of the opposition councilors of the Municipality of Montevideo (IM). Likewise, he assured that today he will send his defenses in writing to the Senate – he was given a period of 10 business days to do so in this way or in person.
Regarding the fact for which she is accused, the non-response to requests for information, the community chief expressed that there was “no constitutional violation”, since the IM has responded to the requests for reports made by the opposition councilors and has delegated his representation before the Departmental Board to the “higher hierarchies”.
“The most mature decision was that this should have been ‘no place'”, pointed out the mayor in radio statements, for whom the senators of the Multicolor Coalition they took a political stance to “move on” and “attack” against him, and that was seen at “national government getting into the campaign for the mayor, where there were ministers who attacked me”. “It’s not good for democracy,” he stressed.
Likewise, Cosse branded as “insane” the fundamentals that the opposition councilors give to start this impeachment trial. “He or the mayor each time he is summoned can evaluate whether he should attend or be represented by the highest hierarchy. We evaluate having ourselves represented. The important thing is that the information we had was that we had 100% of the reports answered. The councilors did not enter the room to listen to the information, except for two councilors of the Colorado party. The other ediles of the Montevideo opposition are not interested in the information,” he launched.
“I am convinced that we will not be distracted. The Municipality of Montevideo is interested in information, and transparency is more interesting. We have answered thousands of requests for access to public information, ”he defended.
