President Luis Lacalle Pou met for the first time with his Chilean counterpart, Gabriel Boric, in the framework of the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit what is being done in Santo Domingo Dominican Republic.

Although Lacalle Pou was present during Boric’s inauguration as head of state in Chile, she is the first time that the leaders meet bilaterallywith the objectives of strengthening regional ties.

The key points of the Ibero-American Summit

According to the official program of the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit, which is held under the motto “Together for a fair and sustainable Ibero-America”the 22 nations meeting in Santo Domingo will adopt “four instruments” to establish their position and propose solutions regarding “some of the main challenges facing the region”.

The first of these documents is the Ibero-American Environmental Charterwhich aims to consolidate “the shared vision of the challenges of climate change, the loss of biodiversity and pollution, and establishes guidelines to guide regulations and public policies in these matters”.

The second text is Ibero-American Charter of Digital Principles and Rightswhich seeks to place people “at the center of the inclusive digital transformation, address existing gaps and avoid new ones. In addition, “it promotes principles that States must keep in mind” to “implement national legislation and implement policies public”.

The third theme is “the Strategy to achieve food securityWith this, it is proposed to “increase intraregional trade and the development of more resilient supply chains, consolidate family farming, expand access to financing to transform agri-food systems and strengthen rural digital infrastructure.”

The fourth, and last point, is the Special Statement on International Financial Architecturewhich “systematizes a proposal to move towards a fairer, more inclusive and flexible international financial system, which allows Ibero-American countries to better face the processes of post-pandemic recovery, energy transition, climate adaptation and the fight against inequality “.

President Lacalle Pou, for his part, will participate tomorrow in the Meeting of Heads of State and Government.
