According to the police, the man was tracked down by extensive investigations. He confessed to the allegations, as the police said on Friday. He is said to have committed the crimes between 2020 and the end of 2022.

The Innviertler is accused of having broken into churches and chapels five times, of having committed 27 thefts in self-service shops and of violating hunting and fishing laws by killing three animals or of committing cruelty to animals. Specifically, he is said to have shot a duck with a rifle in a nature reserve and to have been involved in the killing of a gray heron. On top of that, he confessed to having shot a frog sitting in the street for no reason. He also confessed to having shot up a street lamp with his rifle in a public bath on the Irrsee.

According to the police, the 46-year-old had legally owned the 22lr caliber rifles, but carried and fired them without a weapons-law document. The man said he used cannabis occasionally. The motive for the burglaries and thefts is said to have been lack of money.
