The man was out on his touring skis in his free time when he discovered a snowboarder who had had an accident. The official, who is also a member of the Werfen mountain rescue service, immediately provided first aid and called the rescue services. The seriously injured man was flown to the Schwarzach Clinic by rescue helicopter, the police reported on Sunday morning.
Too fast and tired
The 54-year-old snowboarder from Baden-Württemberg had an accident shortly after 4 p.m. on the descent on the Bischling. At the end of the steep slope, in terrain that was already flatter again, the winter sports enthusiast drove over the edge of the piste in a right turn due to excessive speed and tiredness. The man came onto the already empty meadow and fell down the slope.
Severe injury
The German suffered serious injuries to his legs from a rootstock, severe bruises to his upper body and a concussion. He was seriously injured a few meters below the slope and was discovered there by the Salzburg police officer. According to the police, the snowboarder would almost certainly have died on his 54th birthday without the help of the officer due to the serious injuries.
