Wearing an elaborate crown full of daffodils once. Represent the Ausseerland in the most beautiful traditional costume. Be a princess or queen one day. A dream that could come true for three young women at this year’s Narcissus Festival from June 1st to 4th. “I can recommend everyone to apply to be a Daffodil Highness. You don’t just experience the Daffodil Festival itself in a very special way. We were out and about all year round, performed at many different events and were in great demand as representatives of the Ausseerland.” , says the reigning daffodil queen, Lisa Weinhandl.
For the 22-year-old from Bad Aussee and also for 20-year-old Katharina Thomanek from Abtenau, a big dream came true in 2022. The two highnesses were out and about all year round, made many contacts, undertook numerous excursions, for example to the Zillertal, where they took part in business hikes together with representatives from politics and business. Another highlight in the Highnesses’ calendar will be the Styrian Spring in Vienna in April.
“Of course, I look back on our term of office with mixed feelings. It was a fantastic time and I enjoyed every minute. On the other hand, great successors will certainly be found at the casting who will take over this position at the start of the Narcissus Festival on June 1st become,” says Narcissus Princess Katharina Thomanek.
Advice for New Highnesses
What advice can the reigning Daffodil Highnesses give their successors? “The most important thing is to stay authentic and just enjoy it. If you have too high expectations of yourself, then the pressure increases enormously. My advice to everyone: just have fun,” says Narcissus Queen Weinhandl. Her Narcissus Princess adds: “If you pretend, the jury will notice it immediately. You also represent the Ausseerland for twelve months. You should be there with all your heart. Then nothing can go wrong.”
The two, who are now connected by a deep friendship, will also actively support the upcoming Narcissus Festival. Whether at the fashion show or the daffodil parade: “We won’t let this tradition escape us.”
How does one become a sovereign?
