Three deserving personalities from Steyr were recently awarded one gold and two silvers in the Steinernes Saal of the Linz country house: Governor Thomas Stelzer quietly awarded Kurt Schmidl the Golden Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria, for the two former Deputy Mayors Ingrid Weixlberger and Wilhelm After all, Hauser gave this honorary badge in silver.

One of the first to congratulate was Steyr’s Mayor Markus Vogl: “All three personalities have had a significant positive influence on the development of the city.” For decades Schmidl was responsible for the magistrate and worked for the people of Steyr, Hauser and Weixlberger contributed to Steyr being a town with a very high quality of life today.

Honored Vice Mayor
Kurt Schmidl became a municipal employee in 1982, and ten years later he was promoted to municipal director. He held this position until 2021. This makes Schmidl the longest-serving magistrate director in Steyr. His merits include the modernization and design of a service-oriented administration.
Ingrid Weixlberger has been active in local politics for more than a quarter of a century since November 1994. A particular concern of her was the expansion and modernization of the childcare facilities, the “supervised housing” Ennsleite and the construction of the youth center on Damberggasse. From 2003 she was a member of the city senate, and in 2015 she was promoted to deputy mayor.
Wilhelm Hauser was a personnel representative in the Austrian Armed Forces for more than 35 years, where he rose to the rank of second lieutenant. In the army he was a respected and valued personality. He came into city politics in 1997 as a municipal councilor. In 2003 he became a city councilor and in 2012 he became chairman of the SP parliamentary group and deputy mayor. He had a significant influence on the image of Steyr today, contributed among other things to the general renovation of the Innerberger Stadel, the redesign of the town square and the construction of the panorama lift.
