The cost of construction increased by 7.64% year-on-year

Despite the monthly increase of 0.82% in February, the data shows a slowdown in the accumulated annual variation.

He Statistics National Institute (INE) reported in a technical bulletin the latest data from the Construction Cost Index (ICC) corresponding to the month of February. The ICC registered a monthly variation of 0.82%an accumulated annual variation of 0.97% –which came from 1.17%– and a year-on-year variation of 7.64%which implied a decrease of 0.18% compared to the 7.82% registered in January.

The General Index was included in 913.28 points compared to 848.7 points in February 2022. The labour It was the group with the highest incidence in the variation (0.45%) after its own rise of 1.40%, and an index number of 1,171 points. On the other hand, the materials they had a drop of 0.31%, with a negative incidence of 0.08%, and with 752.41 points in the index.

On a year-over-year basis, the highest peak occurred in April 2022 when the monthly variation was 5.91%, while the lowest point was in December of the same year, after a fall of 1.18%. The monthly variation for February 2022 had been 0.99%.

On the other hand, the General Expenses Index had a monthly increase of 0.67%; the Tax Index another 0.66%; the Index of Social Laws, one of 1.45%; the Definitive Connections Index one of 0.01%; and the Permit Cost Index remained unchanged.

What type of construction climbed the most?

In the breakdown, the General Index of 10-story towers with elevator rose 0.78%; the General Index of Ground floor and 3 floors without elevator increased 0.75%; the General Index of Strip duplex set 0.86% did; while the General Index of the Set isolated on ground floor 0.91%, due almost exclusively to an increase of 1.46% in labor for constructions of this type.

Among the work items, the brickwork showed a rise of 1.02%, being the highest inter-monthly and impacting on an incidence of 0.27%, and on the other hand, the category of appliances and taps it fell by 1.17%, reflecting an imperceptible incidence of 0.01%.
