In the Hospital of the Brothers of Mercy in Linz, a new CT device is in use that can save crucial minutes in radiological diagnostics. Within a few seconds, more than a thousand images are taken and immediately interpreted based on AI.

The intelligent software provides an initial diagnosis just as quickly, which only needs to be checked by the radiological specialists. “Thanks to the AI-based technology, the initial diagnosis is much faster,” says Primar Gernot Böhm, head of the radiology department at the Brothers of Mercy. The software is unique in Austria. “The device automatically and reliably detects cerebral hemorrhages or occluded vessels.”

Significantly less radiation dose

The 3D simulation offers another advantage. Within a few seconds, the device delivers a precise, high-resolution display of complex structures and processes from inside the body. “Stents can thus be individually adapted to the patient and even complicated interventions can be carried out endovascularly, i.e. without surgery, safely and gently for the patient,” says the doctor from the convent hospital.

“The device also sets completely new standards in terms of safety with a load capacity of up to 300 kilograms. In addition, the radiation dose is individually adjusted to the patient’s weight, size and gender, which leads to a significant reduction in the radiation exposure,” says radiology expert Gernot Böhm .
