Both the Union Ostermiething and the SPG Friedburg/Pöndorf have an away trip on the agenda for the upcoming game day of the Upper Austrian league. And both Innviertler teams will be welcomed by hosts who are strong at home. While the Friedburger on Saturday (5 p.m.) with the SPG Wallern/St. Marienkirchen face second and third place in the home rankings, Ostermiething will visit SPG Weißkirchen/Allhaming on Friday (7:30 p.m.), who are still unbeaten on their own facility this season. At the same time, the reigning champions are also the “draw emperor” with ten draws in 18 games and are therefore within striking distance of the Ostermiethingers, who could draw level with a win. “For us it’s about taking every point,” says Ostermiething coach Robert Berg.
“It’s definitely not nice to play against us. We can annoy any opponent if we get our virtues on the pitch,” says Berg. In Weißkirchen, an artificial turf awaits his troops, but according to Berg, not only the hosts can play well on it. They already showed their skills on the artificial run in Wallern last autumn. “I don’t think that we have worse cards because of the place and can show good football there too,” explains Berg. “But nothing else matters to us than staying in the league. That’s why we primarily want to keep the gap at the back.” That was also the case recently in the match against the bottom team from Wels, where they drew 1-1 in the follow-up game on Tuesday.
“No pressure”
The Friedburgers were also able to celebrate a point win – the first in this calendar year – against Pregarten last weekend. Since captain Thomas Fenninger saw red for preventing goal chances, they were outnumbered for the last half hour. “So I see the result as positive,” explains coach Franz Aigner. “We put in a decent performance again, especially defensively.” It will also need it to survive against the heavily manned Wallern offensive. “We’re under no pressure and can play freely on Saturday,” Aigner clarifies. Even if Fenninger, Friedburg’s long-time bellwether, will not be in place. “We haven’t dropped against any team so far. It’s also another highlight for the boys in the team and a chance to present themselves against a strong opponent,” says Aigner.
