The government of Luis Lacalle Pou approved on Thursday the tender specifications for the development of the 5G network in the country, which will begin in the next 30 days.
The text maintained the requirements for companies provided for in the draft of the Communication Services Regulatory Unit (Ursec), but incorporates some modifications.

All companies may apply regardless of whether or not they already have a license for mobile telecommunications in Uruguay. The ones that do have it are Clear, Movistar and before.
Companies that do not currently provide service in the country must prove that in the last five years they have provided a minimum of two years of experience in international mobile telecommunications services, in at least two countries of North, Central or South America, either Europe.
The base price of the auction
The base price of the 5G spectrum auction will be 28 million dollars, 6 million dollars above forecast. The official document detailed that the winners will pay “the price that the Executive Power establishes in a timely manner within the terms it determines.”
All 5G standards
Despite warnings from USA, the document approved by the government does not exclude Chinese companies from the 5G network tender. On the contrary, it clarifies that “any technological standard” will be accepted, so that the technologies of China They will be considered.
It should be remembered that Ursec will be the body in charge of opening the tender to assign the two blocks within the 3.5 GHz spectrum for 5G that will belong to private companies and will be complemented by the third block reserved for the state company Antel.
At the end of last year, the Executive Branch renewed the 3G and 4G spectrum for 54 million dollarssomething that generated controversy in the opposition, from where they denounced an attempt to benefit the companies, since the corresponding call for bids was ignored.
