He Government of Canelones signed an agreement with United Nations Development Program (UNDP)within the framework of the trust constituted by the Administration to carry out works to provide development services in the municipalities of Las Piedras, Los Cerrillos and Aguas Corrientes.
According to the UyPress news agency, the Mayor of Canelones, Prof. Yamandu Orsi, He maintained that the Intendancy’s great project is to develop infrastructures and better living conditions for the department, but he assured that with the common budgetary resources it is difficult to achieve this goal, “especially considering that no department has grown so much in recent times like cannelloni”.
In this sense, Orsi pointed out that what comes from the national budget plus the departmental budget, “if one distributes it per inhabitant, It is the department that weighs lessgiven the exponential growth we have”. For this reason, the Canarian chief explained that they had to go out and look for resources so as not to be left behind, “and we have had the fortune or virtue of having the support of organizations such as the Bank of the Republic and the Andean Development Cooperation (CAF)and the more partners we have, the better because it helps transparency and the UNDP in this as in other actions have also accompanied us”.
The Resident Representative of the UNDP in Uruguay, Alfonso Fernandez de Castro, reported that they are collaborating in interventions that are highly focused on work in the territory, “because, in the end, the development agenda materializes in the territory and in people.” In this regard, he reported that They will be working in three municipalitieswhere from infrastructure interventions they will address three approaches: innovation, territoriality and work with people through mechanisms of deep listening and participation, “so that these infrastructure intervention works are not only gray infrastructure, but really serve the need of the people”.
Fernandez de Castro added that For UNDP it is a pleasure to work with the Municipality of Canelones, since they also learn from these interventions. “We, as UNDP, learn a lot through this type of work, so we see ourselves as partners in this joint learning process that is development and, above all, the development of people,” he concluded.
In addition to Mayor Orsi and the UNDP Representative, the Pro-Secretary General of the Mayor, Lic. Silvana Nieves, the Director of Urban Conditioning, Arch. María Eugenia González, the UNDP deputy representative, Gabriel Bottino, the Analyst of Programs, Virginia Varela, the Mayor of Las Piedras, Gustavo González, and the Mayor of Los Cerrillos, Rodrigo Roncio.
About infrastructure works
The works will be destined to Dry Park of Las Piedras, the educational path of Los Cerrillos and the Cultural Center of Aguas Corrientes. The Director of Urban Conditioning, Arch. María Eugenia González, spoke about each of the projects and highlighted the importance of these works for the public. Regarding Parque Seco, he pointed out that it is an urban space of a significant scale, “with almost three blocks, which includes Plaza Coll, which was transformed by the railway infrastructure, and the memorial for the disappeared from Pedresa, which is now going to be part of this park, as well as the Espínola fair, which are fundamental actors in the development of this public space and later in their daily life”.
In the case of the Cultural Center of Aguas Corrientes, he pointed out that “it is a facility that aims to strengthen access to culture for all”, and regarding the educational path of Los Cerrillos, he said that it is an infrastructure that favors the sustainable urban mobility. “We are giving security to the children, adolescents and young people who travel along this road, who do so throughout the school and high school year. Through equipment, priority is being given to pedestrians on that street, which will become a space for safe access to educational institutions,” he added.
