The port of Colonia increased its passengers by more than 120% during March

The port terminal is going through a great moment, and good expectations are maintained for the Tourism Week.

The port of Cologne registered an increase in the flow of passengers of a 123% YoY only taking the data up to March 27. The port terminal is experiencing sustained growth after the 194% year-on-year increase experienced during the month of February.

Colonian tour operators are optimistic regarding the Tourism Week, and affirmed that there is currently 80% occupancy and reservations until Wednesday, April 5, and from 100% for the weekend of the 7th and 9th of the current month.

On the occasion of witnessing the iconic Uruguay Cycling Tour, last Thursday, March 30, more than 1,000 people arrived in Cologne. The competition began with a prologue time trial of 8 kilometers until the renewed Bullring. In turn, the capital of the homonymous department has proposed a wide variety of cultural activities to attract the interest of visitors.

Uruguay positioned Colonia as a cruise destination in the United States

Within the framework of the Seatrade Cruise Globalthe most important cruise fair in the world, held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (USA), the undersecretary of Tourism, Rowing Monzeglio suggested to the city of Sacramento Colony as a destination for cruise ships with a maximum of 1,000 passengers and avoiding weekends, due to the flow of passengers registered by the port of Colonia at that time of the week.

Monzeglio assured that “the proposal was well received”, but it is still necessary to study the technical and logistical aspects. Government estimates anticipate the first cruise ship arrivals during the season 2024/2025but a pilot test is expected to be carried out during the 2023/2024 summer season.

In addition, the undersecretary met with the minister of Tourism and Sport of Argentina, Matthias Lammens, seeking to generate an agreement for a joint promotion of the region as a cruise destination. “Argentina and Uruguay can and should promote themselves together to make trips to the southern cone more attractive as a region,” the officials commented.
