It is the second time that the National Ports Administration tenders container deposits managed by the company.
The National Administration of Ports (ANP) presented a call for public bidding for the management of two container storage sectors of the Port of Montevideo to provide services, being the second time that the public office tenders spaces where the company operates Montecon.

At the beginning of the year, three areas of 10,000 square meters, also belonging to Montecon, but the company was able to win a bid in February. On this occasion, two areas of the port that the company has used for more than ten years to move containers will be tendered.


Bidders must present a maximum value index for the services that they will present to the ANP, which will be evaluated and accepted by the administration, which will then publish a list with all the prices. The winner of the tender must pay a monthly fee of at least 10 dollars per square meter.
The tender will last two years. as soon as the winner of the contest is announced and establishes that the ANP has the right to revoke the contract at any time for reasons of public interest, if it deems so, and should not grant any compensation.
Montecon’s claims
In mid-March, at service company Montevideo port, Montecondenounced the ANP before him Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF)establishing that the ANP has carried out acts that affect “the free competition and harm foreign trade”, according to a statement published by the company.
The complaint was made before the Commission for the Promotion and Defense of Competition of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and it is the third that the ANP has carried out for the same reasons. According to the complaint, the agency “makes operational decisions that hinder or prevent users from using public docks and that do not allow operators to provide the required services.”
On the other hand, he is asking for an investigation into the methods carried out in the pier reservation system and the reasons why public docks are not assigned when shipowners so request.
