The workers of supergás, awaiting the response of the Executive

The workers of the supergas bottling plants decided to return to work normally and are awaiting the response of the Executive powerafter more than 50 employees have been laid off in the companies in charge.

acodike laid off 27 workers, while Riogas to 25. From Acodike they establish that the workloads were decreased by external conditions to the company that have to do with lower demand and change in the pattern of energy consumption.

While Riogas established that “contractual and commercial conditions have changed that governed the Supergas bottling for 15 years”, which implies that “RIOGAS is facing new and significant costs for leasing and investments in the bottling plant and financial costs for the purchase of supergas on credit.”

The leader of the Trade and Services Federation, Favio Riveron, established that this Monday at noon a response from the Executive Power is expected. “It is good that an area is called where we can definitively resolve what has to do with the layoffs,” the leader remarked.

Riverón explained that the situation with Acodike is different since it responded over the weekend and is waiting for the negotiation that has the Ministry of Labor as an intermediary. From the federation, they demand from Acodike the reinstatement of the dismissed workers.

“Up here Ancap was in charge of paying everything that had to do with the modifications that were made inside the plant and, as of March 1, Ancap is no longer responsible for these restructuring situations,” explained the manager, referring to the new contract that took place in the February month.

Riverón remarked that behind the layoffs there may be a kind of pressure from companies to Ancap. “We believe that what is in the background is that they want Ancap to put some money more than what they are putting in today or that the companies put less for the rent of the plants,” the leader concluded.

How is the supergas market made up?

After closing the contracts and tenders in the month of February for the supergas industry, it was concluded that Riogas will operate the La Tablada plant whose contract stipulates a use permit with a duration of eight years, while it offered a higher value in the tender opened by Ancap; and Acodike will operate the other facilities for five years.

For her part, the Uruguayan Fuel Distributor SA (Ducsa) had awarded the 100% of the service for packaging of its supergas bottles: 70% corresponding to the first and second sections remained in the hands of Megal, while the remaining 30% of the third section began to be operated by Acodike as of March 1, in which Riogas did not participate in the tender due to a disagreement with the requirements.
