According to data from Uruguay XXI, turnover for placements also suffered a 4% year-on-year drop during the month of March.
The Institute Uruguay XXI released today the data on exports of goods corresponding to Marchwhich added 1,033 million dollars4% below the same month of 2022. In this way, the first trimester of the year closes with sales for 2,814 million dollars, 3% below what was registered in the first quarter of the previous year. The figures include sales from free zones.
In March, year-on-year falls were recorded in sales of meat and by-products, as well as in soybeans and wheat. On the contrary, pulp sales increasedbeverage concentrates and barley malt, among other products.
Taking the data from the first quarter, which allow us to observe this year’s trends, the sharp decline in meat exports is verified, both by price and by volume. Indeed, beef sales fell 25% compared to the same quarter of 2022totaling 534 million dollars.
Pulp exports, on the other hand, rose 40% in the first quarter, mainly due to the increase in price. When the second plant of UPM Cellulose will consolidate as the first export item of the Uruguay.
Dairy sales also had an interesting advance in the January-March period (10%), totaling 215 million dollars. Likewise, rapeseed sales, after an important harvest, totaled 150 million dollars, an increase of almost 70% compared to 2022.

Destinations
In March, China resumed its place as the first destination for Uruguayan exports, surpassing Brazil, who had been leading in recent months. In any case, when considering the sales for the quarter, Brazil remains the main destination due to its higher purchases of electricity, dairy products and plastics. Third, there is the European Unionfollowed by USA.
