With a touching ceremony, the students of the Educational Institute for Elementary Education (BAFEP) in the Don Bosco School in Vöcklabruck said goodbye to their teacher Markus Wurm on Monday.
Wurm, who has been paralyzed from spasticity since birth, taught the fourth graders in “inclusive education” together with Angelika Mittendorfer for more than ten years. In class, Wurm, who also has severe language impairments, talked about himself and his life with an impairment. He discussed topics such as accessibility, inclusion and happiness with the students. However, terms such as “disability” and “impairment” were also questioned together.
Markus Wurm is now starting a new career in Altenhof. Last Friday he had his last working day at the Vöcklabruck school. At their farewell party, they showed him how much his students loved him. They presented him with farewell gifts such as a Gstanzl or a signed school jumper. As a farewell, the Don Bosco sisters sang the Don Bosco song “Fiaß am Bod’n, Herz im Hümme” – and moved one or the other to tears. “We all thank Markus for the great time we had together and wish him all the best for his new professional and personal experience in Altenhof,” says headmistress Margit Gangl.
