It is the largest flower festival in Austria, which attracts thousands of guests to the Ausseerland every year: the Daffodil Festival, which is taking place for the 63rd time this year. The highlight for many visitors is the festival Sunday on June 4th, when the daffodil figures in their white blossoms can be admired in the center of Bad Aussee. The new concept of celebrating the festival Sunday at only one venue gives the guests “enough time to view and photograph the figures,” says Rudolf Grill, chairman of the Narzissen Festival Association.
The varied program from 1st to 4th June has many special features in store. For three young women, a big dream can already come true on the evening of June 1st. Because on this day the new Daffodil Highnesses are crowned. “It’s a moment you never forget,” says the reigning daffodil queen, Lisa Weinhandl.
Application as Highness
With her Narcissus Princess Katharina Thomanek, she answered the questions of the top-class jury a year ago at the casting for the Narcissus Highnesses. The most important thing: “Just stay true to yourself. If you disguise yourself during the casting, the jury will notice it immediately,” says Weinhandl. “It’s not good to play a role just to become daffodil sovereignty. After all, you represent the Ausseerland at numerous events for a whole year,” adds Katharina Thomanek.
Enthusiasm for the Ausseerland-Salzkammergut region and its traditions as well as a good demeanor are the best prerequisites for daffodil sovereignty. Candidates between the ages of 18 and 30 have until April 28th to send in their application, consisting of a CV, two photos and a few lines explaining why they want to become Daffodil Highness. The casting will take place on May 6th in Bad Aussee. (cape)
