Only 4 out of 10 people agree with the reparation project for victims of the guerrilla

The Usina de Percepción Ciudadana prepared a survey about public knowledge and the degree of support that the Cabildo Abierto initiative reaches.

Based on a recent survey of the Citizen Perception Plantit follows that only 4 out of 10 people agree with the bill promoted by Open Town Hall (CA) that seeks reparation for victims of illegal acts committed by members of armed groups, for political or ideological reasons, between January 1, 1962 and on December 31, 1976.

According to the report, 39% of those surveyed showed agreed that the victims be compensated in some way, while 32% disagree. Another 19% of those consulted were indifferent to the project. However, 45% disagreed with the fact that the maximum repair reaches an amount of $150,000, according to The Daily.

The bill, which provides for compensation of up to $150,000 for the victims, was approved last week with votes from the legislators of the Multicolor Coalition that make up the Constitution, Codes, General Legislation and Administration Commission of the Chamber of Deputies. Now it remains to go to the Plenary after the Tourism Week.

Only 40% of Uruguayans know about the project

According to the study, only 40% of those surveyed know for sure what the CA initiative is about. In turn, the twenty% of those surveyed stated that they had heard about the project, but did not know what it was about. At the other extreme of the 40% who claim to know what the legislative initiative is about, the 36% of respondents said they have never heard of it.

Regarding the age groups, 60% of those over 60 years of age heard about the project, while only 18% of young people between the ages of 18 and 29 know about it. Likewise, among people with a high socioeconomic level, knowledge reaches 57%, while in low levels it reaches 19%.
