The Uruguayan is being investigated for failing to comply with the entity’s internal regulations, having maintained a sentimental relationship with a subordinate.
A group of eight Democratic representatives sent a letter on Wednesday to the Secretary of the United States, Anthony Blinkenso that the government of Joe Biden support investigations into irregularities and the “unethical” behavior of the general secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS)the Uruguayan Luis Almagro.
In the document, also sent to the US ambassador to the OAS, Francisco Morathe eight legislators, led by hank johnsonthey expressed: “We believe that it is imperative that the Administration immediately support the investigations into these additional accusations”, regarding Almagro’s non-compliance with the internal regulations of the OAS, having maintained a sentimental relationship with an official of the organization.
In their letter, the Democrats pointed out that Almagro “weakened the work” of an anti-corruption body in Honduras, as well as that in 2020 he “abruptly” refused to renew the contract of the executive secretary of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), paulo abraofor political reasons.

An external firm has yet to deliver a final report with its findings on next April 20.
