Since 2019, Fritz Egger, as director of the Meggenhofen theater, has succeeded in establishing the Hausruckviertel as a relevant theater location: folk drama comes from the people for the people on the stage, without a provincial touch, and certainly not in the mentality. In 2021, the high quality of this theater for the production “Der Brandner Kaspar and eternal life” was awarded the state’s stage art prize. This year, Egger and club chairwoman Maria Rotschopf put Heinrich von Kleist’s classic “The Broken Jug” in the version by HC Artmann and directed by Christine Wipplinger on the programme. The premiere will take place on June 6th and will be played until July 9th.
“It is an excellent idea on the part of Christine Wipplinger to cast the character of the original Waltersberg court councilor as a woman, because this gives the play a relaxed, modern twist. We live in a different reality than Kleist (1777-1811, ed.)”, says Julia Cencig, who will be seen in this court councilor role and has become the darling of the audience at the latest with Soko Kitzbühel (Major Nina Pokorny). Egger himself is the village judge Adam. Peter Scholz, with whom Egger will present the successful production “India” from 2022 on 14/15. July resumes, plays writer Liechtl. Susanne Altschul is Marthe Rull, Miriam Fussenegger is her daughter Eve. Cencig: “It is inscribed in the play that Judge Adam plays tricks with the women – and if a woman now exposes him, that gives the play a feminist aspect.”
Choirs, come sing along!
Inspired by the SIE Challenge by OÖN and the Poxrucker Sisters, Egger and the Theater Meggenhofen invite choirs from the region to present themselves musically at the Kirschecker-Hof at the end of the season on July 16th. The highlight of this evening will be a concert by the Poxrucker Sisters, who will also be celebrating an anniversary in 2023: For ten years, the women’s trio has been delighting their audience with dazzling danceable dialect pop from the Mühlviertel.
