So far in the spring, the Union Schardenberg has had a tailor-made start in the 2nd class West-North. Coach Andreas Wimmeder’s team scored the maximum of nine points from the first three games in the second half of the season, with a goal difference of 13:2. With a commanding 5-0 victory in Stroheim last Sunday, the Wimmeder squad took over the place in the sun, since the home game of the previous leaders from Raab against Wesenufer had to be canceled due to the weather.
On Saturday (4 p.m.) there will be a head-to-head duel between the two title candidates who are dominating the league this season. “We’re hot for the game,” says Andreas Wimmeder. “We’ve been unbeaten at home for almost a year. There are also a number of injuries coming back. We can go into this game with confidence.” In particular, the variability and the broad squad characterize his team this season, says Wimmeder: “We are in the fortunate position that we are not dependent on individual players and are strong as a team.” The Schardenbergers also want to bring this strength to the pitch in the top game against Raab. According to Wimmeder, the goal is clear: “On Saturday we’re definitely going to play for a win. I can almost draw on unlimited resources. It could also be a small advantage for us that Raab lost the rhythm of the game a bit because of the cancellation.”
In any case, Raab coach Florian Reitinger sees a “difficult game” ahead of himself and his team. “For us, however, a win is of course also the top priority. We’ve never gone anywhere and said we wanted to play a draw,” says Reitinger.
The Raab coach expects an offensive game on Saturday. An exciting aspect: The hosts are the goal factory in the league with 52 direct goals, while the Raabers have conceded only nine goals in the previous 14 games. “The tactical things that we worked on defensively after the relegation are becoming more and more important,” says Reitinger, for whom promotion is not an absolute must. “We didn’t know the league and said from the start that we wouldn’t put any pressure on ourselves and we’d see what came out in the end.”
Gilgenberg demands Munderfing
There will also be a top duel in the district league west on Easter Monday (4 p.m.). Autumn champion and table leader Munderfing is a guest at pursuer Gilgenberg. The championship dreams of the Munderfinger received a small damper on the last day of the game. After a half-time lead, they had to admit defeat at home against Neumarkt with 1:3. Since Gilgenberg was able to successfully play his away game in Senftenbach with a 4:2 win and two late goals, coach Felix Scharinger’s team has moved up to three points from the leader. With a win, the Gilgenbergers could knock Munderfinger off the top of the table due to the better goal difference.
That the Scharinger squad knows how to hurt the leaders of the table was already proven in the autumn. At that time, the Munderfingers were beaten 4:2. It is clear that the Gilgenbergers are going into this game with a large portion of self-confidence: With 46 goals they have the strongest offensive in the league. In addition, after the opening defeat in spring against Utzenaich, the black and yellow were able to win two in a row. In any case, the ingredients for an entertaining top game seem to be there.
